Renew Measure G

Measure G is not a new tax

mountains

Measure G continues the one-cent local sales tax Salinas voters approved in 2014. Renewal keeps the existing rate in place — it does not increase the tax rate. The City confirms that Measure G was approved by Salinas voters in 2014 as a one-cent general transactions and use tax with a 15-year term.

Why renew measure G

Protect the services Salinas relies on

Measure G helps fund the everyday city services residents use and notice — while keeping the existing tax rate unchanged.

Not a new tax

Renewing Measure G continues the existing one-cent local sales tax. The rate does not increase.

Supports local services

The original Measure G ballot language specifically referenced policing, fire and paramedic response, streets and sidewalks, recreation, and other city services.

Avoid major service cuts

Without renewal, the existing Measure G tax begins phasing out in 2029. The City projects significant budget reductions as that revenue disappears.
